About the Conservancy
Organized in 1986, The Colebrook Land Conservancy, Inc. is a non-profit
501(c)3 organization run entirely by volunteers. The goal of the Conservancy is to preserve Colebrook's natural resources, including land and water resources, plant and animal life, and unique scenic, natural and historic sites. We're involved in the protection of over 1050 acres in town.
The Conservancy...
- owns 641 acres,
- and holds voluntary conservation easements limiting development on 413 acres.
Ongoing Activities Include:
Education
- We regularly produce a newsletter with articles of local conservation interest.
- We sponsor nature and historic walks and talks, including programs at the Colebrook Senior and Community Center's pot luck dinners.
- We donate conservation books to the Colebrook Consolidated School each year in honor or Earth Day through its Robert B. Lisle book fund.
- We display a variety of news for the conservation-minded on our bulletin board at the Colebrook Senior and Community Center.
Land conservation and monitoring:
The Conservancy works with landowners in all areas of town interested in protecting their land.
Local issues:
Our members monitor issues that affect land use and natural resources protection.
