About Colebrook

The town of Colebrook is located in the hills of Litchfield County in northwestern Connecticut, just south of the Massachusetts border and the Berkshire Mountains.

Colebrook was incorporated in 1779 and named after the town of Colebrooke in the English county of Devon. The Colebrook Center Historic district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The historic buildings include the Samuel Rockwell House (1794), the Colebrook Store (1812), the Seymour Inn – now the Colebrook Historical Society (1816) and the Greek Revival Church (1842).

The town has a total area of 32.9 square miles and, according to the 2000 US Census, a population of 1,471. The Algonquin State Forest, which contains the Sandy Brook Natural Area Preserve and the Kitchel Wilderness Natural Area Preserve, is located within the town.
